On behalf of HARP Publishing The People’s Press, we acknowledge that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Mi’kmaq People, whose presence here reaches back to time immemorial.
This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship,” which Mi’kmaw Welatekwiyik (Maliseet) and Passamaquoddy Peoples first signed with the British Crown in 1726. The treaties did not deal with surrender of lands and resources but in fact recognized Mi’kmaq and Welastekwiyik (Maliseet) title and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations.
Further, HARP respects and affirms the inherent and Treaty Rights of all Indigenous Peoples across this land. HARP will continue to honour the commitments to self-determination and sovereignty we have made to Indigenous Nations and Peoples.
HARP recognizes the Mi’kmaq as the stewards and defenders of the land and waters known today as Nova Scotia. We honour your long history of welcoming many Nations to this beautiful territory and hold with deep respect the traditional knowledge and values of Mi’kmaki, our Host Nation.
HARP acknowledges the historical oppression of lands, languages, cultures and the original Peoples in what we now know as Canada. HARP commits to healing the wounds of our shared history by featuring Nation-to-Nation dialogue and right relationships in its publications. HARP commits to uphold and document the evidence that storytelling and all the Arts contribute to the healing and decolonizing journey that we are all on together.
