SINGING TO THE DARKNESS by Patricia Vickers, PhD
Join Us for the Feast Hall Book Launch
Early in May 2020, HARP the People’s Press announced the release of Singing to the Darkness: meditations and monologues, a visual inquiry into trauma and resilience by Patricia June Vickers, PhD of Haida Gwaii.
In ordinary times, the publisher and the author by now would be setting up an in-person launch event where the curious and the committed could gather in place to learn more about the book from the author, publishers, and advance readers. Before the world changed, we had envisioned the places and the people for two events to accommodate the author Patricia Vickers on the west coast in Haida Gwaii and the publishers, Dorothy Lander and John Graham-Pole, on the east coast in Nova Scotia. But these are not ordinary times.
And so it is that HARP, like many other small publishers, has come up with an innovative scheme for a virtual book launch. We propose to deliver a progressive book launch, a kind of progressive dinner party, offering nourishing morsels over time and space, modelling the ceremonial Feast Hall style that animates Patricia’s writing. For each course, we will focus on a different aspect of Patricia’s book. We will address the different and overlapping reader categories identified on the HARP website, including: Indigenous studies; intergenerational trauma therapists/counsellors/artists; lifelong learners, adult educators and policymakers; writers and storytellers.
